Again only 5 of us at steak club after an extended break over Christmas. For once we were all on time even though I had a 2yr journey from work into London. Gary had an overused joke on the evening constantly telling us that he took a bit of a gamble on the night’s restaurant choice. We were none the wiser and taking his comment literally…
Venue - 7
Gary escorted us in a cab through Leicester Square, stopping outside the Hippodrome Casino. The casino looks like an old converted theatre, with the steak restaurant (Heliot) located upstairs in the stalls. Gary’s joke made a little more sense now.
Menu – 7
We don’t really look much further than the ‘Grills’ section if you are not the host. They offered a decent range of cuts and sizes of USDA steaks.
Waitress – 6
We were served adequately by a nice young Italian lady. She recommended the rib-eye, which was a great choice.
Steak – 8.5
Between the 5 of us, we opted for 2 T-Bones and 3 rib-eyes. As per usual I consistently went for my favourite, a 500g rib-eye. It has been a good few months (since our summer sizzle last August) that I had a steak that good. It was cooked perfectly, medium rare in the middle and slightly charred on the outside. I will definitely be going back for another rib-eye.
Wine – 5
Wine is normally my forte, but even I could identify that the wines weren’t great. I normally quite enjoy Malbec wines, but even this one wasn’t great.
Value - 9
The cost per head for the quality of the steak I had can’t be matched in my 7yrs of steak clubs. At £55 per head including steaks, sides and 2 bottles of wine (granted not the best), it is great value. On their website they quote, ‘Heliot Steak House boasts great value USDA prime steaks’. I couldn’t agree more…
